Open Telefonica Magny Cours results

The Spaniard wins second race at Magny Cours and takes a 10-point advantage to Italian Burlotti

Magny Cours, 16 July.- Spanish driver Antonio Garcia (Adrián Campos Motorsport) is again the Open Telefonica leader. He lost the first place following resolution of the FIA Court of Appeal on Thursday. Burlotti got 40 points back (he won both races at Catalunya).

Today Garcia started from the pole and nobody could catch up with him. His team mate, Frenchman Patrice Gay, tried to but he did not have a good chance. Pit stops of both drivers were quite similar, so changes in the leading positions did not take place.

This second race was marked by an incident in lap 4. Spaniard Burgueno tried to overtake Portuguese Rui Aguas (second after a very good start) on the inside and both crashed and were forced to retire.

Garcia and Gay took great advantage in the lead, followed by Italian Andrea Belicchi. Gay tried to overtake Garcia at the last part of the race, but the Spaniard managed to keep the first position.

Next event of the Open Telefonica (6th round of 8) scheduled for August, the 6th at Donington Park.

ANTONIO GARCÍA: "Today only Gay was a major threat for me. He raced really good today, but I was aware of the circuit's critical points for me. I had an incident with Aguas in the first lap. I think he is too risky and tries to scare me. The great adversary for me is Burlotti".

RUI AGUAS: "I had to brake severely two times in Adelaide, because Garcia blocked me repeatedly. It was quite evident he is not faster than me at Magny Cours. Then, Burgueno appeared like a "kamikaze" and that was the end of the race for me. I tried to avoid him, but it was impossible: he went straight towards me. I think the Spaniard races beyond his own limits".

ANGEL BURGUEÑO: "I bet Aguas points at me as "guilty" of the incident, but I was already on the inside and had taken the good path. I can not understand why Aguas, who races for the series title, did not allow me to pass. today I was really confident in winning. The car was perfect".

PATRICE GAY: "Today the key was grid positions. Antonio and I have lapped almost in the same times, so trying to overtake him was kind of a too risky matter. I thought of series points at the end of the race. There are no team instructions for Antonio and me. I tried to win, of course".

GIUSEPPE BURLOTTI: "We have had several problems with the car's setup. The series standings are really close and I am quite confident, because the circuits remaining fit me well. Today I have been lucky of remaining in race after being touched by Delahaye".

ANDREA BELICCHI: "I took profit from the incidents, but the car was today highly competitive, even though we have been quite far from the race leaders. The team did a great job in the pit stop. That allowed us to finish in the third position with no excessive problems".
