The South African driver, best today at Albacete first testing day end of pre-season tomorrow. First official collective testing due on the 1st of March at Jarama.

Albacete, 21 February.- Tomas Scheckter (Vergani Racing) has not confirmed yet his entry in the Open Telefonica Nissan 2001, but this fact does not prevent him from setting the best lap times in preseason tests. However, this time at Albacete Scheckter took advantage from having the opportunity of lapping alone yesterday at this circuit (1.20.2). Today, Jody Scheckter's son has gone below 1.20 and has approached the absolute track record for this circuit located 250 kms east of Madrid. This record was set by Spaniard Angel Burgueno also in Open Nissan free testing (1.19.347, 1999). The threat for Scheckter came today from Portugal. Both Italian-based Scuderia Fam Portuguese drivers Manuel Giao and Paulo Alho got second and third best lap times. Giao is one of the favourites for 2001 title, but Alho is performing much more than the expected for a number two driver. Best Spaniard today was Santiago Porteiro (Vergani Racing) from Valencia.

15 drivers lapped today at Albacete. Day-off for Venezuelan Milka Duno (she is expected to lap tomorrow), but, on the other side, first ride for Portuguese karting driver Lorenzo Veiga on the Coloni Nissan CN1/C. Nevertheless, Veiga is not entering the Open Nissan this season.
