Professional auto racing returns to south east Texas.
Texas World Speedway on February 14, 15 and 16, 2003

Thursday, January 30, 2003 (Houston, Texas, USA): The Houston Region of the Sports Car Club or America (SCCA) and ProVee Promotions Inc., are proud to announce the return of professional auto racing to South East Texas. On February 14th, 15th and 16th the Valvoline ProVee Series comes to Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas.

With no Houston Grand Prix in 2002 or 2003 race fans in South East Texas have been deprived of the excitement of close fought open-wheel racing. As a remedy, the Valvoline ProVee Series will be the feature race for the Space City Double Nationals race weekend.

The Valvoline ProVee Series uses Formula V cars that are single-seat open- wheel cars based upon engine and suspension components of the original VW Bug (hence the name). The nature of these small Formula cars is such that all races are close-fought resulting in exciting races.

The Valvoline ProVee Series is sanctioned by ProVee Promotions Inc., and most of the races are conducted in conjunction with SCCA Nationals, and are road races, but additional events are run with other organizations including NASCAR Winston Cup, ARCA, and IMSA, both on road courses and short ovals. The typical entry field is about 30 cars (more than any of the races featured during the downtown Houston Grand Prix events).

The Space City Double Nationals will take place at Texas World Speedway, located just south of College Station on Highway 6. There is ample free parking for all spectators and campers. Concession stand will be open throughout the weekend. Tickets are $10 per day and will be available at the track. Free admission for SCCA member volunteers.

Unlike many professional events, spectators are encouraged to mix with the drivers and crews. The paddock is open to all spectators at no additional charge.

Practice sessions will take part on Friday February 14th, with qualifying sessions for the Valvoline ProVee Race in the morning of race day, Saturday 15th. The feature race will be after lunch on Saturday along with the support races. Additional races will take place on Sunday 16th.

In addition to the ProVee Series there will be five other races with various types of racecars ranging from open wheel Formula cars to Showroom Stock classes where the cars are close to their showroom specifications.

For further details can be obtained from www.houscca.com/. Details of the Valvoline ProVee Series may be found at www.provee.org/.
