Formula Vee Battle of Champions Resumes
The second Pro Tour event of the year takes place at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, on the 24th March and includes National Championship Races, for Hollard Shelby Can Am, Formula Ford Zetec and Formula Vee, along with Regional Championship events, for Altech Porsche Cup Unlimited, Goldwagen VW Challenge, Historic Touring Cars and Sports Racing Cars. For motorcycle enthusiasts, the event also sees the launch of the new Kawasaki ZX10 Masters Cup.
After two close action filled races, during the first Round of the Championship at the WesBank Raceway, the Formula Vee race at Kyalami should not disappoint. Heading a quality field, will be the reigning National Champion Alan Holm (No1 Lasersprint Rhema 2) and ex Champions Peter Hills (No2 Vacuform Rhema 2), Symm Grobler (No5 Auto Mecca Rhema 2) and Dennis Johns (No8 Geyser Attorneys Rhema 2). Jaco Schriks (No3 Lasersprint Rhema 2) will be hoping to get in amongst them again, after a below par result at Wesbank, while ex Karter Andre Van Der Merwe Jnr (No777 Acc Airconditioning Rhema 2) will be hoping to regain the form, he produced during the 2005 season.
Not far behind, ex Karters Trevor Bland (No6 Rhema 2) and Kyle Bennett (No89 AIE Plastics Rhema 1) could be fighting it out amongst themselves, without the attentions of sixteen year old Dean Lester who will be away on holiday in Australia. NLDTF Development driver, sixteen year old Courtney Steenveld of Cape Town (No23 NLDTF Rhema 1) will be hoping to get into the National Points, this time around but will have to contend with the likes of Jannie Geyser (No7 Geyser Attorneys Vision), Doug MacDonald (No18 Fantastic Racing Rhema 1), Gert Van Den Berg (No40 Rhema 1), Kevin Cartmell (No17 Rand Brake Sting), Ben Pienaar (No101 BJ Pro Welding Vision), James Leach (No52 Rhema 1), Durban's Zaahir Essa (No71 Rhema 1), Bradley Martin (No14 Rhema 2), Nico Blignaut (No26 Gilus SAP IT Rhema 1), Johan Gouws (No27 Mantis) and Jack Valadas (No44 Racing for Jesus Rhema 1)..
Making their first appearance of the year, should be Andre Van Der Merwe (No21 Atlas Dry Cleaners Mantis), Gareth Jackson (No10 Lasersprint Rhema 2) and John Lerm (No55 Racing for Wildlife Sting). A number of drivers should also be making their Formula Vee National Championship debuts at Kyalami, including Andre Van Tonder (No32 Tasman), Charles Roets (No41 Sting), Lucky (Rhema2) and Denver Pienaar (No50 Rhema 1).
See You at Kyalami
