SAMF3: Fernando Rees Campo Grande race notes

Good debut for Fernando Rees at South American F3 championship.

Fernando Rees (Alitalia), Brazilian driver from Sao Paulo, made last weekend his first two races with a Formula 3 car. Rees, who has competed in Italy for four years (karting and Formula Renault) came back home to challenge best drivers of South American motorsport. Racing for race winner Cesario Formula Team, with the sponsorship of airline company ALITALIA, Rees achieved his first points in the season racing at Campo Grande, a city near the "Pantanal-Forest" in the mid-west of Brazil.

Kick off with podium finish

Fernando Rees started from 6th place in the first race of the weekend, on Saturday. "Something went wrong with the clutch and I could not start", said Rees, who later was one the attractions of the race, coming from last position to finish 7th after 30 laps. In the second race, on Sunday, Rees started from 5th place and managed to overtake two cars in a single attack, finishing third place in the race and achieving his first podium finish in the category. Race 1 was won by Rees team-mate Danilo Dirani, whilePiquet Sports's driver Xandy Negrão had a lights-to-flag win in the second race.

South American F3 Championship is divided into two categories. Fernando Rees races at Formula 3 "A" category, the most important of the championship. The series uses Dallara chassis built until 2001. Most of the teams are powered by Honda-Mugen engines, but there are also Opel and Mitsubishi units. F3 Light is the support series and uses old-fashioned chassis built until 1994. All cars are equiped with Pirelli tires.
