Two Skip Barber trained racers battled for the lead in the hotly contested final laps of the NAPAonline.com 250 in Busch Series action. As is ultimately the case, only one could emerge victorious. In the end, it was Todd Bodine who edged out fellow Skip Barber trained racer Jeff Burton to record his first win of the season. Burton went on to a third place result. Bodine ran the 125 laps of the 2-mile oval in 1 hour, 32 minutes and 10 seconds to complete the race at an average speed of 162.749 mph. Jeff Gordon's seventh place rounded out the Skip Barber trained racers among the Top-10.
In Winston Cup action, Skip Barber trained Bobby Labonte, the Winston Cup points leader, took the final podium spot in Sunday's Pepsi 400, also held at Michigan Speedway. Labonte extended his lead 10 points on his closest rival in pursuit for the Winston Cup Championship. Other Skip Barber grads to record top-10 results were; Jimmy Spencer (7th), Ward Burton (9th) and brother Jeff Burton (10th).
The Motorola 220, part of the CART FedEx Championship series and held at Road America this weekend, featured a podium position for 1993 Pro Series Champion, Kenny Brack. Brack's third place result was best among the Skip Barber trained racers in the top-10, which featured Barber Dodge Pro Series grad Memo Gidley (6th) and Brazilian's Tony Kanaan (8th) and Helio Castroneves (9th). Earlier this month, Gidley earned a full-time ride with Della Penna Motorsports after impressive starts as a substitute driver.
In Toyota Atlantic action, Skip Barber trained drivers Alex Gurney, Rocky Moran Jr., and Mike Conte took the checkered flag as a train in fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively. The race featured current Barber Dodge Pro Series driver, Andy Lally, who secured a one-race ride with World Speed Motorsports and turned in a ninth place result for the effort.
