Formula Dodge Western Series Championship
Laguna Seca Raceway
Monterrey, CA
April 4 - April 6, 2003
Group 2 Qualifying
Position Qualified: 2nd
Fastest Lap Time: 1:40.520
Qualifying Notes: Frisselle came out strong in Saturday's qualifying session, continuously posting the fastest lap. He faced some difficulty when his head rest came loose, but the young rookie from Hawaii continued with determination to finish in a respectable P2. "Unfortunately I encountered some lap traffic near the end, just as I was confident that I could string together my fastest laps of the session," Frisselle stated. "However, I am definitely pleased with my P2 finish and look forward to the race this afternoon!"
Group 2 Race 1
Position Started: 2nd
Position Finished: 1st
Fastest Lap Time: 1:40.361
Race Notes: Frisselle got a great start in Saturday's race, taking the lead in the first corner. From that point on, the young rookie from Hawaii never looked back. Frisselle led every lap, posted the fastest lap of the race by nearly a full second, and claimed victory with a nine second margin. Frisselle was thrilled, stating "I am definitely happy with my performance in today's race. I got off to a great start, taking the lead in the first corner. Then I just concentrated on maintaining my position and increasing the gap between myself and P2!"
Group 2 Race 2
Position Started: 1st
Position Finished: 2nd
Fastest Lap Time: 1:40.082
Race Notes: Frisselle gave an equally impressive performance in Sunday's race, taking the lead in the first lap and maintaining it for the duration of the race. Once again, the young rookie posted the fastest lap of the race and claimed victory, this time with a seven second margin. "The race today was awesome! I am very happy to end the season with two victories," said Frisselle. "Although I am disappointed that I was unable to claim the Championship, I am thrilled to finish 2nd overall in my first Western Championship Series season. I am looking forward to applying all that I have learned here in the 2003 Formula Doge National Championship."
Memorial Race
Race Notes: Frisselle started the memorial race 3rd from last, with his older brother Burt Frisselle two positions behind. Both of the Frisselle brothers got off to a good start, and moved swiftly through the field. In a remarkable move in turn two, the Frisselle brothers simultaneously passed the leader of the race as Burt took the inside and young Brian challenged from the outside. Brian came out of the corner in the lead, but was overcome by older brother Burt in the outside of turn two. Despite Brian's efforts to reclaim the lead from his brother, Burt held his position to finish in P1, with Brian coming in at P2. "I was thrilled to have the opportunity to race with my brother; we had a great time out there. I'll get him next time!"
