Wahl Sweeps Sebring Finale; Isra Takes Masters National Crown
Isra will contest one round of the Barber Dodge Pro Series in 2002

Quentin Wahl claimed the final two victories in the Formula Dodge Masters National Championship at Sebring International Raceway. Befitting the event, the historic road course was laid out in full 3.7-mile trim. Roland Isra, who entered the championship currently owning two Masters Regional crowns, found room for another in taking the inaugural Masters National title. For his feat, the New Yorker earns a complimentary race in the Barber Dodge Pro Series in 2002. The two Masters National races were held as part of the Southern Regional race weekend, the final stop on a continental circuit that included Virginia International Raceway, Road America, Lime Rock Park and the Mid-Ohio Sports Course.

Outstanding weather served as the backdrop to the first Masters National race. Polesitter Michael Edwards gave back his front of field advantage three minutes into the race when he had a gearbox problem and couldn't continue. Roland Isra moved up to the point from second, but was eventually chased down by a swift Quentin Wahl on lap 7. Wahl set the fastest lap among this group with a time of 2:27.233 sec. and led the remaining four laps en route to victory. Isra followed in second ahead of Peter Ponder-Pistor in third. Among the many in contention were Masters regulars Chris Willcox and Bud Risser.

Overcast skies threatened rain but didn’t dampen the already high spirits heading into the last competitive round of the season. As he did earlier, Wahl found a way to the point, upsetting polesitter Ray Scott before the first turn. Mark Patterson charged to the front from seventh, wrestling for the lead with Wahl before contact with Peter Ponder-Pistor, forced both to retire. Chris Willcox shined tailing Wahl and improved four positions to land in second place. Roland Isra, who started from 13th after crashing his car on the first lap of qualifying, mixed it up with Michael Edwards for the final podium spot. Edwards proved the more valiant securing the position for good on the last lap. Isra finished off the podium in fourth, a rarity for the brave New Yorker, but was no doubt consoled by his Masters National Championship.

Chris Willcox finished second to Isra in overall championship standings, Peter Ponder-Pistor third, Quentin Wahl, fourth and Bud Risser, fifth. Michael Edwards, Charlie Hilmer, John Pew, Lorin Gill and Louis Dibrell rounded out the top-10.

Congratulations to Roland Isra, all competitors, families and friends.
