Putnam Park - 1.77 Mile Road Course
Round 5 of the Formula Dodge National Championship Series Presented by RACER

Skip Barber Karting Scholarship winner Craig Baltzer snatched his first top 5 finish of the season in round 5 of the Formula Dodge National Championship Series presented by RACER magazine. Baltzer posted a season best 3rd place qualifying position with a time of 1:15.708 only 0.288 off the pole time set by Scott Speed. The start of the 23 lap race saw Baltzer drop back to 7th, but the Iowa native kept his cool and charged ahead to take 4th place at the finish, only 1.026 seconds behind the race winner. Baltzer set a fast lap of 1:16.138 during the race and took home 12 points toward the Formula Dodge National Championship presented by RACER.

Craig:

"Today has been a great day. All year I've been talking about how important qualifying is and today I finally put down some quick laps to start up front. I was really hoping for a podium finish but I can't feel disappointed with my 4th place result today. Finishes like this are just what I need to start building my confidence. We still have a little work to do to get to the top spot but I am feeling more and more comfortable every session in the car. A very special thanks to Skip Barber, Dodge, Michelin, RACER Magazine, Lakefront Technologies, and Socal Decal Works. Without their support and confidence in me I wouldn't have this opportunity."

Round 6 of the Formula Dodge National Championship Series Presented by RACER

Craig Baltzer again showed his potential in the 6th round of the Formula Dodge National Championship Series Presented by RACER Magazine. In only his 4th car race weekend Baltzer held the pole position with a new track record time of 1:15.260 until being eclipsed on the very last lap by a scant 0.003 seconds. The race start saw Baltzer get hung out on the outside dropping him back to 4th position before the cars finally sorting into a single file formation. Baltzer held his position clinging to the back of the leaders until lap 16 when he got tangled up with Jonathan Jorge going into turn 1. The resulting spin dropped him back to where he finally received the waving checkered in 13th position. Baltzer posted a fast lap of 1:15.481 while managing to bag 3 more points toward the championship.

Craig:

"I have to look at today with a positive mind. I didn't get the finish I probably should have had, but I still finished and got 3 more points to add to the 35 I already have. I did just about everything I could have done today to finish in the top 5. I really didn't make any mistakes, even when Jonathan tried to get by me in turn one, I made the best choice I could. He came in all locked up and got into a spin. To avoid contact I had no choice except to take to the marbles where I spun also. In the end 3 championship points were better than crashing out of the race. Overall I am very happy with the weekend. I was really focused in qualifying and ran up front both days. This is definitely a huge boost to my confidence and I am already looking forward to improving my position in the next round at Indianapolis Raceway Park June 13-15."
