LAKEVILLE, Conn. (May 1) - Jeff Simmons, 20-year-old younger brother of CART Indy Lights points leader Chris Simmons, will make his professional open-wheel debut in the Barber Dodge Pro Series May 16-18 at the Dixie Crystals Grand Prix at Savannah Harbor. Simmons, runner-up to champion Dan Daniel in the just-concluded '96-'97 Skip Barber Formula Dodge 2000 Southern Race Series championship, has won 10 races in 28 starts in the Formula Dodge 2000 Series since last spring. "I'm looking forward to this," Simmons said, a junior at Boston College. "It's neat; Chris will be there in Lights, I'll be there in Barber Dodge. My brother and I have always been racing. I started in quarter-midgets when I was five and I feel ready. I tested well in the Barber Dodge pro cars at Sebring a few weeks back. I was right on the pace with the other guys I raced against in the Formula Dodges, like Will Langhorne and Eric Tresslar. Though I'd like more test time, at least everybody is on equal footing at Savannah, since no ones raced there yet." Savannah is round three of the 1997 SCCA Pro Racing Barber Dodge Pro Series. Opening round winner Rino Mastronardi, with 35, has a 14 point advantage over Andy Boss, with Sebring winner Derek Hill in third place at 20. espn2 will air the Barber Dodge race from Savannah on Sunday, June 8 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. ###
