(MOUNT MERIDIAN, Ind.) Aug. 6, 2000 – As he did at round five of the Formula Dodge National Championship Presented by RACER, Canadian Anthony Simone of Aurora, Ont. proved to be one to reckon with in the battle of future stars. Round seven took place at Putnam Park Raceway just out side the capitol of American motorsports, Indianapolis, Ind. Simone scored his second win in the Formula Dodge National Championship series, and did so with a charging drive to the front.

Christian Szymczak of Oakland, Calif., from the outside of row 1 fired the first shot when he overtook pole-sitter Bryan Sellers going into the first turn at the drop of the green flag. Sellers, the championship points leader, who would eventually come in second to Simone would have his work cut out for him in this one. While Szymczak was off attempting to make his escape, Simone had his sights set firmly on Sellers. Within a few laps the task had been accomplished, and Szymczak was the next to fall by Simone’s wayside. On lap-6 as they approached the turn-1, it was Simone who would make the pass going around the outside of the Oaklander. From there on Simone was the class of the field, taking his second win of the year, and dramatically improving his points position to second place though he still trails Sellers by 22-points.

All was not lost for Sellers, of Centerville, Ohio. Determined not to let his title lead slip away, he would find his way back past Szymczak in turn-1 as well where Szymczak appeared to be weakest. Things wouldn’t improve for the luckless Szymczak as he ran off the track while in third place. Sitting behind him was Jon Morley of Columbus, Ohio inheriting the final step on the podium. He also improved his standings in the overall classification to third as well. Landon Yee of San Rafael, Calif. also benefited from Szymczak’s off to step up to fourth while Szymczak himself salvaged an eventful race by finishing fifth.

Round eight takes place Sunday, Aug 6. Simone and Sellers will face off on the front row in a race the weatherman is predicting that rain may be a factor.
