There are still 24 hours in a day and seven days on a week, just as there has been since man began to record time. Yet it seems there is less and less of that time to go around. Skip Barber racers are no exception and to that end the Skip Barber Race Series will experiment with a One Day race format on May 12 at Putnam Park Raceway in Mount Meridian, Indiana, about an hour outside of Indianapolis.

Open to all qualified racers in accordance with Skip Barber Race Series rules, the one day race format will begin with a"van around" the track to orient drivers. Following will be one 30-minute practice session to precede an 18-minute qualifying session. Finally, the day culminates with a 30-minute, non-points earning race.

The event will piggyback the more traditional three-day event format that begins on May 9 and wraps up on May 11. Entry for the One Day race event is $1650.00. Those who have participated in the traditional format race weekend may add the fourth day of racing for $825.00.

The pilot weekend may help to determine if more One Day format race weekends will be hosted in the future.

For those not familiar with the Skip Barber Race Series, it is North America's largest arrive and drive race series. Competitors need not own a racecar, tools, helmet, racing suit or anything else. Skip Barber supplies it all. Competitors just arrive and drive. Everyone competes in identically prepared Formula Dodge R/T 2000 racecars complete with Michelin Pilot CS racing slicks and a five speed sequential gearbox. Best of all, every driver gets a car capable of winning the race. There is no need to be constrained by budget, or having the latest parts on your racecar, or even struggling to find a race day set-up. It's fun, hassle free racing. As always, a corps of Skip Barber instructors is on site to give feedback so that competitors derive more pleasure from their racing.
