For the fifth year, the BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda is the first rung on the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Open-Wheel Ladder. The National Champion will also earn an Indy Lights test session with Bryan Herta Autosport.
In 2010, Skip Barber Racing School and Mazda will name its first Rookie of the Year in the Skip Barber National. The Rookie of the Year will earn a fully funded season in the 2011 BFGoodrich/Skip Barber National Presented by Mazda, courtesy MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development.
The balance of the prize package for the Skip Barber National will be announced at a later date. "Mazda North American Operations is a terrific partner with Skip Barber Racing School," said Todd Snyder, VP of Competition for Skip Barber Racing School. "We are excited about the addition of the USF2000 Championship to the Mazda ladder and look forward to watching our National Champion compete in that series in 2011."
"Our partnership with Skip Barber has enabled MAZDASPEED to develop long-term relationships with up and coming drivers. We have met dozens of teenage `kids' and have watched them mature into confident and professional young men and women as they progress from Skip Barber up the ranks," said John Doonan, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Team Development Manager. "The competition and coaching they receive with the Skip Barber team is second to none. Raphael Matos is the perfect example of a driver moving up the MAZDASPEED ladder, and his starting point was with Skip Barber. We can't wait to see who the 2010 champion will be."
The Drivers
The Class of 2010 includes trio of drivers returning for their sophomore season, the defending Summer
Regional Race Series champion and representatives from five different countries challenging a strong
American contingent for this year's title.

Among the drivers making their National debuts are 2009 Skip Barber Summer Race Series champ Nick Andries, 2009 ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup champ Daniel Lloyd, Karting Scholarship Shoot-out winner Mukul Sud, Skip Barber Regional Race Series driver Scott Anderson and Brandon Newey, son of renowned race car engineer and IZOD IndyCar Series team owner Steve Newey.
After testing the waters in the Skip Barber National during the 2009 season, MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development drivers Spencer Pigot and Felix Serralles will challenge for the 2010 title after winning the big scholarships at this year's Karting Scholarship Shoot-out, funded by Mazda and the FIA Motor Sport Safety Development Fund.
The Skip Barber Cup, a separate championship for drivers 26 years of age or older who are not eligible for the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Ladder, makes its debut in 2010 with a quartet of drivers entered for Homestead; Al Carter, John Giddens, Jim Norman and Brian Skinner.
