Thrilling National Formula Vee action, expected at Killarney.

The battle for the 2003 Formula Vee National Title, moves to Killarney on Saturday 12 April 2003, when some of the top National Contenders do battle, along with a contingent of local drivers Formula Vee drivers, eager to prove themselves against the best in the country. This affordable 1300cc Volkswagen powered single seater category, usually produces good close racing, particularly at Killarney, where the long main straight allows competitors to make good use of the slipstream. A full program of action packed racing, will also include Regional Championship races, for the Suzuki South Motorcycle and Classic Motorcycle categories, ASA Auto Spares Clubmans cars and Warwick Super Cars, as well as Club Championship races for Fast Parts GTi Challenge, Formula Libre and Sports Cars.

Leading the Formula Vee title chase, are David Veringa (#3 Sabat Rhema) and Alan Holm (#2 Johannesburg Bright Steels Rhema), with Veringa having secured a double win a Zwartkops, in February, while Holm fought back to secure both victories, in Port Elizabeth, in March. They are currently separated by one point, at the top of the log and the outcome of the Killarney race, will determine which of them is leading, by the end of the day. After an impressive performance in Port Elizabeth, their strongest challenge could come from Cape Town's Ernest Viljoen (#45 Auto Atlantic/ Protea Hotels Rhema), while the 2001 Champion, Lee Thompson, will be driving the same Vision in which he won the title. The car is now owned by Cape Town's Willie Ras, who's son Mario has to wait until later this year, before he is old enough to compete. Snapping at their heels should be seventeen year old Jody Robertson (#5 Rhema), 1999 Champion Peter Hills (#8 Peter Hills Auto Clinic Sting), Symm Grobler (#4 Auto Mecca Rhema 2) and the sixteen year old Cape Town driver Wilfred Brand (#14 Auto Atlantic/Protea Hotels Rhema).

Returning to the category, will be the 1997 and 1998 Champion, Anthony Taylor (#77 Vacuform Rhema 2) and good solid performances can also be expected from Jaco Schriks (#6 Johannesburg Bright Steels Sting) and Wayne Bennett (#10 Lafarge Readymix Rhema 2). There will also be a number of the Cape Town designed and built Lantis Vees in the field, driven by the 2000 National 125cc Kart Champion, Luc Lucchesi, along with other local drivers, Romanie Smithdorf, Wade Godding and Andrew Henerson. Doug MacDonald will be giving his brand new Rhema, it's first race, while Chris Danks will make his Formula Vee racing debut, in the ex Hennie Roux Arrows, as will Jacque Plaut, in the ex Steffi Auket Sting.
