Tander, mother of two and wife of Supercars star Garth Tander, made a full-time comeback to national Formula Ford this year, 16 years after finishing third in the series as one of the country’s brightest young talents back in 2000.

She went into the final round of the series 32 points ahead of Will Brown, a third in today’s final race clinching the title for her despite Brown’s clean sweep.

“I have never won an Australian championship. I have finished second multiple times and third, so leading up to this week I thought something was going to go wrong,” said Tander. “It can't be that easy.

“It is certainly up there with anything else I have achieved. I haven’t really thought about it just yet.”

The title-winning drive may well be Tander’s last two, with no set plans for next season.

“I don't have anything planned for next year so that could very well have been my last race which makes it very emotional too,” she added.

“To do it properly this year we have spent a bit more money than we have the last few. I have spent two years budget in one year for me I have no plans for next year.

“If things pop up I will grab them but I don't have any plans to compete in any championship or series.”
