RACE CARS

INDY CARS & CHAMP CARS -- as raced in the Indy 500", Indy Racing League", and the CART" series.

USSS is the only series which allows drivers and teams to face off in such a wide range of chassis / engine / tire combinations: Lola, March, and Reynard vs G-Force, Dallara, and others .. powered by normally-aspirated Oldsmobile Aurora and Chevrolet engines vs Buick, Cosworth, and other turbocharged racing engines .. on Hoosier vs American Racer tires.  

Both Indy cars and Champ cars are open-wheel, single-seaters, with open cockpit. Aerodynamic features include front and rear wings and underbody designed to produce ground effects, which create the suction power of a vacuum under the car. The monocoque construction includes protective driver cockpit, fuel cell and front suspension. The engine is a stressed or integral member of the chassis and the rear assembly includes gearbox and rear suspension members. The cars weigh up to 1650 pounds and use methanol fuel to produce up to 900 horsepower. They are capable of reaching speeds over 230 mph.

DRIVERS TO WATCH

KEN PETRIE of Parker, Colorado has driven his Precision Industries March-Chevrolet to victory in four of five races in the 2001 inaugural season of USSS. PHIL ERICKSON of Phoenix, Arizona/Lake Tahoe, Nevada scored his first USSS win on the oval at Dodge City Indy Car Showdown in Kansas, at the wheel of his Buick-powered Erickson Companies Lola Indy Car. Other drivers in hot pursuit include GREG GORDEN of Colorado Springs, CO in his Pikes Peak International Raceway-sponsored G-Force chassis with Oldsmobile Aurora engine (2nd at Pikes Peak & Sandia II); DON WARREN of Aberdeen, Washington in the Don Warren Inc. Lola-Buick (2nd at Sandia I); MIKE KOSS, in the Brayton Engineering Lola-Buick (3rd at Dodge City); and ERIC KOSELKE of Indianapolis, Indiana, in the Lennon & Associates Lola-Chevrolet (currently 3rd in USSS pts).

The USSS program will be a feature race event along with the NASA race program which includes Big Bore Production Based & GT Cars, Small Bore Production Based & GT Cars, Open Wheel Formula and Sports Racing Cars on the Firebird Main Track. The NASA Street car orientation program and High Performance Driving Event for Street Cars will be run on the Firebird West Track during the 3-day weekend.
