A different Klaas this time round!
Banbury, UK, Friday 2nd August 2002: The NDS EuroBOSS Series arrives at Zandvoort for the Marlboro Masters festival next weekend (10th/11th August) and Series leader Klaas Zwart, from Warga, near Leeuwarden in The Netherlands, will be looking to treat the crowd-- likely to exceed 60,000-- to a home victory to extend his lead and change a run of bad luck at the Zandvoort circuit.
Zwart has been the most consistent racer in this year's NDS EuroBOSS Series-- Europe's fastest motor racing Series which is rapidly growing in stature as a spectacle for the public and as a stepping stone for drivers - securing four second places in the four rounds to-date. His first was achieved in a 1995 V12 Ferrari, formerly driven by Jean Alesi, and the three that followed in an Ascari Judd powered Benetton V10.
Zwart started racing at a relatively late age but quickly proved he had the speed and talent to win. However, his first race at Zandvoort in 1990 is memorable for the wrong reasons.
Klaas Zwart, Driver, Team Ascari:
"I had engine problems and qualified last. On the first lap I passed 24 cars to take fourth spot. With just a few laps to go I took the lead but on the last lap my gearbox blew. This seemed to start a run of unfortunate incidents and I cannot recall a great personnel achievement on the circuit."
"NDS EuroBOSS will provide a wonderful sight for spectators with 20 cars from the world of Formula One, Indy and F3000 racing at high speed. Major events such as the Marlboro Masters provide a wider audience with the opportunity to experience EuroBOSS and are the future for our exciting Series. For the older fans the event is sure to bring back memories of the days when the Dutch Grand Prix came to Town. The younger fans may be enjoying the feel and noise of such high performance machines for the first time. It should be a great race and I hope my luck changes."
