First Slingshot Racing Cup launched in Canada
The world's first ever Slingshot Racing Cup, featuring the innovative Polaris Slingshot SLR, has been launched in Canada.
Professional race car driver David Richert and S.A.R. Sport and Recreation announced the creation of a one-make Canadian series that relies the same Polaris Slingshot car that is used at the annual Race of Champions.
The Slingshot is a 800kg, three-wheel high performance sport vehicle powered by a 174-bhp, 2.4-litre, four-cylinder engine.
The Canadian Slingshot Racing Cup is a championship open to qualified candidates owning a Slingshot. The series will hold several events at Gimli Motorsport Park, Manitoba throughout the summer.
The winner will be given the exclusive opportunity to experience driving Richert's single seater in Europe with a professional race team. Richert started racing in various Volkswagen Jetta and Polo Cups before he switched to open-wheel racing, competing in the Italian Formula Renault Championship in 2011.
“Being part of something ground-breaking, like the Slingshot Racing Cup, is always a fun experience and getting the chance to do it so close to home will be a bonus,” said David Richert. “We're right on the edge of taking that last step up into the highest racing championships in the world so this opportunity fits in at a perfect time. I'm looking forward to working with all the other drivers as they experience the unique challenges of racing the Slingshot.”
