David Wall Fired Up for Return of Carrera Cup Battle
After a massive break between rounds, New South Welshman David Wall is itching to get back into the fight for the Carrera Cup Australia at Phillip Island. The round, to be held this weekend, will be run in support of the first V8 Supercar endurance race of the year, the L&H 500.
David has not been idle in the since the last round of the championship was held at Queensland Raceway on 20 July, he has competed in a major international endurance race and tested a V8 Supercar.
David scored an outstanding 3rd place result in the Merdeka Millennium Endurance 12-hour race held at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia in August. Joined in the race by fellow Carrera Cup racer and best mate, Barton Mawer, and Damien Flack, David and the team raced in the Porsche 996 RSR that David campaigned in the Australian GT series last year.
"The race was awesome! We were running a car older than the 08 spec Porsche RSR's that we were racing against and we dropped 15 minutes due to a mechanical failure during the race, but the team fought hard throughout the race to bring the car home in an excellent 3rd place," said David.
On Monday this week, David had the opportunity to run in a V8 Supercar at Queensland Raceway with the help of Paul Cruickshank Racing.
"It took me a little while to get used to driving the BA -- the Porches handles very differently so I had to adjust my driving style to suit the car, but I was very pleased with how the day went. We finished just off the pace of the teams regular driver, Fabien Coulthard," said David after the test.
David then headed down to Phillip Island where he has spent today running in his Carrera Cup Porsche. David and the team spent the day testing the car and getting back into the rhythm of the car in preparation for this weekend's races.
"Today went really well -- the car feels good, so I am hoping for a good result this weekend," said David after the test.
"I have had some good results at Phillip Island in the past and I am hoping that we can continue to push hard and score some more great results.
"I've been battling the flu over the last few days, so I'll be having a few early nights and will be drinking lots of orange juice to ensure I am fitting fit this weekend!"
With rain a possibility over the weekend, the round promises to be another exciting round of Carrera Cup Australia.
The cars hit the track for the first time on Friday morning, with races one and two being held on Saturday. Race three will be held on Sunday and will televised on Network Seven.
