New South Welshman David Wall has put in a solid drive today to set the fastest lap time in race two and secure 6th and 7th positions in today's two Carrera Cup Australia races.

In a frustrating qualifying session on Friday, David qualified in 6th place setting a time just 2.4 tenths behind the pole-sitter and just 2 hundredths behind 5th place on the grid.

"I tried a different driving style through one of the corners during qualifying and it didn't pay off. It is frustrating given the time I set in testing on Wednesday would have been good enough for pole -- but I am really happy with the car and am looking forward to getting back to racing," said David after qualifying.

In both races held today, David made a good start and fought hard during the closely fought races. In the first race, David finished in 6th place, just 6 seconds behind the race winner.

The weather regularly plays a big role in race weekends at Phillip Island and this weekend is no different with the drivers facing fierce winds that hampered the handling of their Porches.

"We were nearly on the rev limiter on the straight today -- to put that into perspective during the test on Wednesday we were running around 1000 revs lower than what we were hitting today," said David today.

"We were reaching a top speed of close to 280km/hr on the main straight."

"The car is getting better and better as the weekend goes on. By setting the fastest lap in race two we proved that we have the speed, and given the car feels great I am really optimistic going into tomorrow's final race of the round."

Sunday's race will be shown on Network Seven as a part of their coverage of the first V8 Supercar endurance race of the year, the L&H 500.
