Supabarn Motorsport fight hard at the ING Australian Grand Prix

The ING Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne has proven to be a difficult playing field for the Supabarn Motorsports team in the second round of the Carrera Cup Championship.

In first ever support round to offer Championship points at the Grand Prix in Melbourne both drivers were involved in incidents throughout the weekend that effected their results.

Race one -- James Koundouris started from 15th with his brother Theo lining up behind him on the grid in 17th. James and Theo both made clean starts and were running bumper to bumper in 13th and 14th by lap two. They both fought hard during the race finishing in 12th and 13th.

Race two -- James moved up a couple of places in the first few corners before the safety car came out on the first lap. At the restart, James received a knock from another driver damaging the cars steering making right hand turns very difficult for the rest of the race. He held 10th until the penultimate lap. He dropped back a few places to finish in 14th just behind Theo.

Race three -- The Supabarn Motorsport Porsches were both involved incidents during the third race.

Theo spun off the track at turn 6 on lap 2 bringing out the safety car. Theo was able to return to the track but was well behind the field. He was able to close the gap but could not catch them in the short race, finishing in 19th position.

A few laps after the safety car pulled off, James was fighting for position when he was hit by another competitor in turn one damaging his steering and causing him to struggle through the remainder of the race. He was able to hold on to 13th position.

Race four -- After a difficult weekend the team were hoping they would be able to capitalise on the speed they had in the car to score a top ten finish in the final race this weekend. This was not to be. Before the first corner James was caught in another driver's accident, effectively ending his race. David Wall hit the right side of James' car heavily, causing extensive damage before they reached the first corner. James was able to limp the car back to the pits, but the team were unable to repair the car in time to get him back out on to the track. The rest of the race was a frustrating one for his brother Theo, with just three racing laps due to the intervention of the safety car. Theo finished in 16th position.

The team would like to thank Supabarn Supermarkets and Dare Flavoured Milk for their continued support and are looking forward to the next round to be held at their home track, Wakefield Park. The round will be held on April 4-6.
