TEAM VIP PETFOODS TAKES TOP TWO IN THE 'TOP END'

Team VIP Petfoods' Craig Baird has pushed on in the 'Top End' to take second outright for this weekend's Hidden Valley Carrera Cup round three - overcoming early setup issues to ensure he remains well and truly in the running for the series championship.

Battling with setup issues in yesterday's qualifying and race one, an adjusted setup brought more speed to Baird's #1 Team VIP Petfoods machine, however it just wasn't quite enough to catch round winner David Reynolds, with Baird instead taking home two second places today to finish second outright for the round.

"Today was an improvement from yesterday, especially in regards to outright speed - which is pretty obvious with two second places and second for the round," said Baird.

"As you could see Reynolds was just so quick all weekend, and for us it has just been a combination of things over the weekend which has meant this hasn't quite been our round, but really when you look at it second is nothing to sneeze at."

While defending champion Baird may not have had the dream run of Reynolds, don't rule him out of the championship just yet, as although the round winner's clean sweep places him second over Baird on the championship ladder, when mentioning this to Baird you get the feeling he isn't too concerned.

"It is early days yet, this was only round three after all," said Baird.

"To get things spot on you need to get everything dead right on the day, be that driving style, tyre pressure, mechanics, or any other number of elements.

"When you look over the years and the championships, everyone has a bad round each year and mine was at Winton, whereas you look at the likes of Davison and Reynolds and they have had a dream run so far.

"It is far from over, and it will just be a matter of digging in and keeping on chipping away to better results."

Whilst Baird was chasing Reynolds, Team VIP Petfoods boss Tony Quinn was heading to his best round result of 2007 -- taking an 11th and two 13th placings to finish one shy of the top ten with 33 points -- a climb of four places from his previous round best at the Clipsal 500 where he placed 15th overall.

Meanwhile Tony's son Klark went on to finish the round equal 15th with Peter Hill, Marc Cini and Ash Samadi after a number of post-race one penalties and exculsions raised his result for that race from 21st to 17th.

In only two weeks Tony and Klark will once again grid up alongside each other, however for once not in the Carrera Cup.

The dynamic father and son duo will contest Queensland's first ever classic tarmac rally, taking part in the Suncoast Classic to be held on the Sunshine Coast over July 5-8.

The pair's home-state rally venture will come only two weeks before the duo rejoin with teammate Baird for yet another local jaunt- this time for the fourth round of the Carrera Cup to be held at Queensland Raceway over July 22-24.
