Saudi's Alesayi fights Bahrain's Sheikh Salman for runner's up spot in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East

Rivals face tense battle in climax to Porsche race series

Dubai. Saudi Arabia's Bandar Alesayi and Bahrain's Sheikh Salman Bin Rashid Al Khalifa face a tense battle for honours as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East reaches its conclusion in the Kingdom over the next 48 hours.

While Prince Abdulaziz Al Faisal has already clinched the overall drivers' title, Alesayi and Sheikh Salman are separated by just a single point in the race for runners-up spot.

That issue will now be decided by the final two races in the 12-round series, which is sponsored by Michelin and Mobil 1, at Reem International Circuit outside Riyadh tomorrow and Thursday,

Second place in the one-make Porsche championship looked to be in the hands of Prince Khalid Al Faisal, the new champion's team-mate and cousin, before two disappointing performances in Rounds 9 and 10 at Reem last week left him 11 points adrift of Sheikh Salman in fourth position.

The Bahraini driver, who was the Formula BMW Asia Championship in 2005, had started the series as one of the title favourites and will be determined to climb ahead of Alesayi in the climax to the championship.

He has matched Prince Abdulaziz with five pole positions in the series so far, but has only one race victory to his credit and wants to finish the season on a high note.

Saudi seems assured of another success, as Faisal Binladen holds a 100 per cent record in the Mobil 1 Trophy and should have a pleasure cruise to the title for rookies and senior amateur drivers.
