SC Global signs British Motorsports Champion Danny Watts to compete in the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia at the 2009 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix

Singapore's leading luxury residential property developer, SC Global Developments Limited, has enlisted British Racing Champion Danny Watts to field their quest for the coveted spot on the Marina Bay podium at the upcoming Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia 2009.

Last year, the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia helped make motorsport history as Singapore hosted its first Formula One Grand Prix, the first ever night Grand Prix, on the stunning Marina Bay Street Circuit. Voted one of the best events in the international sporting calendar, the Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia -- Singapore 2008 was a triumphant addition to the extraordinary Formula 1 race weekend.

SC Global Developments is delighted to once again partner Porsche Asia Pacific for this year's unique event which takes place on September 27th just minutes before the 2009 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. This partnership comes as a result of shared core values with both Porsche including exceptional design, ultimate performance, excellence and success. In addition, SC Global is the series' Official Real Estate Partner for the entire 2009 season.

No stranger to street circuits, Watts had a chance to tackle the Marina Bay circuit in the Aston Martin support race last year. In addition, he had successfully tamed the notorious Guia Circuit six times with one win and another podium finish in 2008, when he came second in the GT race just seconds behind 2008 Carrera Cup Champion Darryl O'Young. Experience that guarantees a nail-biting race to the podium in next month's race.

Commented Danny Watts: "Racing for SC Global Racing in their home event in Singapore with the support of their guests is a great honour. Singapore was the most impressive racetrack I have ever experienced. The atmosphere was second to none in terms of how close an individual can get to the track - you can almost lean over the barrier and touch heroes like Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton. It's unreal !"

He added: "Street circuits take no prisoners. Any small mistake and you are in the wall. The Marina Bay circuit itself is very challenging because it is a normal road that has both fast and slow corners, and chicanes, which makes getting the perfect set up very difficult."

Ahead of the big day, there is plenty of anticipation and excitement in the SC Global racing camp, said Watts "This years race meeting will be bigger and better than before, with a full support programme, live rock concerts and what could be a turning point in the F1 World Championship for the drivers, I have no doubt the atmosphere will be amazing and will be a very exciting event. I just can't wait to get out on track myself...".

Having raced for more than half of his twenty nine years in many of the world's most demanding circuits and championships, Danny Watts is an astute choice to lead the SC Global racing team. Like so many aspiring racers, Watts started his career honing his craft in karting events, before progressing through to single-seater racing in 1998, where he dominated the British Formula First Championship with 12 wins to claim his first of many driver championships. Along the way he has competed with several of the household names who will be slipping into their Formula 1 cars just as Danny is changing out of his. In Formula Renault, Danny was team mate to Kimi Raikonnen and subsequently beat Lewis Hamilton to the series title in 2002. Despite being a winner in Formula 3 and taking numerous young drivers awards, financial constraints unfortunately stopped Danny's continued progress to Formula 1. However, it certainly didn't lead to him being disillusioned and he has since established a growing reputation as a multi-talented driver able to turn his hand to any sort of car.

Since 2003, Watts has contested in a number of grueling and exciting races in various British, Asian and American Championships where he has achieved multiple podium finishes, including the British GT Championship, British Formula Three Series, F3 Euroseries in Nurburgring, the World Series Renault Championship in Monza, the prestigious Le Mans Endurance Series and two of the Porsche Carrera Cup series, where he was quick to make his mark. In the 2006 UK series, he successfully fielded 10 wins, bringing him 3rd in the championship overall, whilst in the Asian series he enjoyed podiums in China, and a win at the season finale in Macau. Since 2007, Danny has had the honour of racing for Team Great Britain in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.

In addition to a busy racing schedule, Danny is also in demand as a test driver and driver coach, imparting his years of experience to the next generation of drivers trying to fight their way to Formula 1. Amongst his charges have been Bruno Senna, nephew of the great Ayrton, and Chinese driver Frankie Cheng, whilst Danny was also on the development team of the Ferrari engined A1 GP car and was the first British driver to be signed to the Renault F1 Team's Driver Development Programme back in 2003.

The Porsche SC Global Carrera Cup Asia -- Singapore Event 2009 will be telecast LIVE on Mediacorp Channel 5 on Sunday 27th September at 17.30hrs, the first time the Asian edition of the Carrera Cup has ever been telecast live on television.
