UK: Glynn Geddie Brands Hatch summary

GEDDIE UP TO 3RD IN CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER BRANDS

Scottish racing driver Glynn Geddie overcame constantly tricky conditions to finish 4th in both of today's Porsche Carrera Cup GB races on a rain-soaked Brands Hatch GP circuit, leapfrogging team mate Euan Hankey into 3rd in the championship standings.

Starting Race 1 from P3, Geddie got boxed behind pole-sitter Tim Harvey off the line and was unable to challenge Michael Caine into Paddock Hill Bend for P2. Lying 3rd, Geddie was caught in a scrap with Tom Bradshaw, who managed to squeeze by as they went into Druids - the pair making contact two corners later at Surtees as the Aberdonian dived in on the inside to regain his place before the door was closed on him, forcing Bradshaw into a spin.

Team Parker Racing team mate Stephen Jelley managed to take advantage and get in front of Geddie who held on to P4, and put in a solid performance to the flag.

With the torrential rain causing disruption to much of the afternoon's race programme, the Carrera Cup field were released onto the grid for this afternoon's Race 2 more or less as scheduled. Starting again from P3, Geddie made a lightning start to get ahead of Caine by the first corner, immediately threatening pole-sitter Harvey for the lead.

While Geddie was constantly challenging and pressuring Harvey for the first 10 of 17 laps, 3rd-placed Caine had a clear track in front of him and was able to catch up with the leaders, eventually breaking up the fight and putting himself between Harvey and Geddie at Westfield.

With Geddie's tyres past their peak of performance and his car's handling rapidly deteriorating, Bradshaw was able to get himself involved, successfully making a move for 3rd as the pair entered Paddock. This is the way it stayed until the 17 laps were complete with Geddie taking home an additional 14 points to add to his championship bid.

Glynn Geddie:

"It's definitely good from the championship point of view that we came away with two strong points finishes today. The conditions out there were really difficult and visibility was almost non-existent. It was an unfortunate incident with Tom (Bradshaw) in Race 1. I saw the gap going into Surtees and I was already committed to the move before the door was closed, but by then I couldn't get the car stopped in time and we touched.

"I was disappointed not to be able to keep challenging for the lead with Harvey and Caine in Race 2 as my tyres were going off and I was losing grip all the time - especially towards the end of the race when a dry line started to appear. From there I just had to drive conservatively and keep the tyres in one piece to the end. Not the result we wanted but on reflection the results benefitted our championship position."

With Geddie 3rd in the championship, behind Harvey and Caine, there is now a five-week break before the next two rounds at Oulton Park, Cheshire on the 5th and 6th June.
