HOME PODIUM FOR GEDDIE AT KNOCKHILL

Scottish racing driver Glynn Geddie clinched a podium finish in his home race for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Knockhill, Fife today. Finishing with third spot in Race 1 this morning, Aberdeen's Geddie had to settle for 7th in Race 2 in a drama-filled opening few laps.

After a strong qualifying performance on Saturday which saw him set the fourth fastest time, just 0.283 seconds shy of the fastest time set by Michael Caine, Geddie made a decent start and quickly put himself in 3rd behind Caine and Tim Harvey.

In the opening laps Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie went after the leaders but soon found himself struggling for traction. Team Parker Racing team mates, and championship rivals, Stephen Jelley and Euan Hankey, took advantage and got in the mix, leaving Caine and Harvey to break away.

Geddie however stayed in control of 3rd, while Jelley and Hankey made contact as they dived down to Duffus Dip - forcing Jelley down the order and Hankey to retire.

Geddie kept it together and stayed in P3 without any dramas until the chequered flag, earning him a well deserved, and meaningful, podium in front of his home crowd.

Starting Race 2, again from 4th on the grid, Geddie established himself in P3 behind Caine and Harvey, when a multi-car tangle further down the field saw Karl Leonard burst his radiator, dropping coolant on the track at Duffus Dip. As the leading trio came down the hill on lap 2, leader Caine managed to make it through, however Harvey and Geddie slid onto the gravel at the following Scotsman Corner, demoting the latter to 12th before the safety car was deployed.

On lap 9 the safety car came in and Geddie immediately went on a charge to make up for lost ground as the race was declared with 19 minutes remaining.

Soon after, with 13 minutes left on the clock, Geddie was fighting with Tony Gilham for P7 and quickly got past, then went on the hunt for Rory Butcher for 6th.

Although convincingly gaining on Butcher, there was already too much road between them and he crossed the line in 7th, setting the fastest lap of the race along the way.

Glynn Geddie: "It's been a pretty mixed weekend to be honest. I'm really pleased to have got on the podium in Race 1, which was much needed from a championship point of view, especially as Stephen (Jelley) finished further down the order and Euan (Hankey) didn't score any points.

"The result in Race 2 didn't do us any favours though and to be fair I'm gutted - we were probably on for another podium as our pace was consistently quick once the safety car came in. I drove as hard as I could to reel in as much lost time as I could, so in that respect 7th isn't too bad after being knocked down to 12th, but it's not where we hoped to end up.

"Now though we just have Donington and Brands left to go, so every point we can get our hands on is more and more crucial, but we are still well in contention for third - we just have to keep pushing."

The 27 points that Geddie collected this weekend mean he moves up a place into 4th in the drivers' standings with 177 points, just ten behind team mate Jelley.

Rounds 17 and 18 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB take place in two weeks' time for the penultimate meeting of the season at Donington Park, Derbyshire.
