MORETTI RACING AT LE MANS-- Moretti Racing, winners at Lime Rock on Memorial Day for the fourth year in a row, have announced the driver line up for this month's 24 Hours of Le Mans. Team owner Gianpiero Moretti will be joined by Didier Theys and Max Papis in Moretti's Ferrari 333 SP. Moretti first raced at Le Mans in 1970 driving a Ferrari 512T, while Papis has never raced at the historic circuit. Theys is a seven-time Le Mans competitor, earning the pole last season in a Joest Porsche. Theys prequalified the Moretti Racing Ferrari second in class and fifth overall ... "I believe we will be the outsider, or dark horse, of the event. Everyone will be watching the Porsches, McLarens and the Nissans. We will be this little private team that will be like David against Goliath," said Moretti. "We went to prequalifying to check consumption, tire testing and didn't change the aerodynamics, nothing, not even a spring, and we did very well. We believe we can do even better at the real qualifying. The biggest job for me will be to speak to my co-drivers like a father. I will advise them of what to do and what not to do."
FERRARI CHALLENGE NEWS -- The next race for the 1997 Ferrari Challenge is the Grand Prix of Canada, June 13-16, part of the Formula One weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. The series made its first visit to the Montreal circuit last season, when a season high 27 cars entered the race. Peter Sachs took the win over Paul Frame, who finished just ahead of eventual series champion Steve Earle. Earle, who leads the 1997 driver point standings, was fastest qualifier in 1996, while Tom Papadopoulos, currently second in the point standings, set the 1996 race's fastest lap.
