The 2000 running of the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney Historic Stages Rally on Sunday, December 3rd, is to be the longest in terms of competitive mileage since the event's inception in 1996. The will route consist of ten special stages, a gain of two over previous years, and a number of the stages will be new to this event. The Killarney & District Motor Club-organised Historic Stages will be the final round of the 2000 Toshiba Computers Historic Tarmac Championship.
The projected route of the 2000 Killarney Historic Rally will differ considerably from past events. The first of the ten stages will be Molls Gap, as per usual. This will be followed by the almost as famous Killmackillogue stage. Two loops of the Healy Pass, Cods Head and Ardgroom stages form the mid section of the rally. The run for home will be through Killmackillogue (in the reverse direction to the morning) and a version of Molls Gap, which will run in darkness. Total competitive mileage will be in the region of 110 miles. The entry fee of IR£220/E279, including IRDS and Personal Accident premium, thus represents excellent value, no increase being levied on the 1999 figure.
The Gleneagle Hotel will once again be the main sponsor of the Killarney Historic Stages Rally, and Special Rally Rates will be available at both the Gleneagle (Rally Headquarters) and its sister establishment, the Scott's Gardens Hotel.
This year's event will be the final round of the 2000 Toshiba Computers Historic Tarmac Championship. Following the decision to limit the Summit Rally last May to modern, homologated machinery, the Tarmac Rally Organisers Association required a replacement event for the Historic competitors, and offered Championship status to the Killarney & District Motor Club for the Historic Stages Rally, which the club was delighted to accept. The Historic, Post-Historic and Classic classes, as used in previous years, will not be changed as a result of the event joining the Tarmac series.
Special Ferry Deals have been arranged in association with Torc Travel for the benefit of overseas competitors, details of which will be posted with Regulations.
