Rallycross Series kicks off at Croft

This Saturday (6th December) sees Darlington & District Motor Club host the opening round of the ANECCC Winter Rallycross Championship at Croft Circuit near Darlington.

Aimed directly at the Clubman competitor, the four round series will see various classes in action including Stockhatch, Modified, Minicross, Rally Cars and Juniors as well as a non scoring Supercar category for drivers wishing to test their 2004 machines.

Doing just that will be BRDA Champion Christopher Evans who debuts his Tony Bardy built Opel Astra in readiness for an assault on the 2004 British Rallycross Championship and whilst the young Irishman is expected to dominate, he can expect some competition from the other classes.

The Modified runners include Northallerton's Dave Bellerby in his Vauxhall Nova and Thirsk driver Brian Thornton who will be out in a Metro but they can expect a challenge from the brand new Vauxhall powered BMW Mini of David Binks from Newcastle along with the older version driven by fellow Geordie Lance Foster.

Redcar's Adrian Horsley starts as hot favourite in the Stockhatch class in his Citroen Saxo VTR and he'll be up against the likes of David Cox from Darlington in a similar car and Middlesbrough's Martin Hawkes in the popular Peugeot 205.

Amy Binks is favourite for victory in the Minicross class and likewise, Steve Bussey from Harrogate in the Rally Car category whilst a number of youngsters will battle it out for honours in the Junior class in their 1000cc Minis.

Practice starts at 10.30am with the qualifying heats getting underway at 11.15 followed by a lunch break. The last of the heats and finals will follow straight after with the minimum of delay expected. Admission costs a bargain £5.00 for adults with accompanied children under 16 admitted free.
