Carnival City Casino and Entertainment Centre has renewed its sponsorship of the Carnival City Casino 400, the final round in this year's Bankfin Off-Road Championship at the end of November.

The inaugural event was held last year and, despite inclement weather, turned into a major success. It was on this basis that Carnival City Casino decided to renew backing for the event in 2002.

"We were very happy with the inaugural event, and have been impressed with the progress off-road racing has made this season," said Carnival City Casino general manager Rod Walker. "We are delighted to continue our association with the MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission, and are looking forward to an equally successful event this year.

"Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us than it was in 2001, but last year's event showed there is a huge market for off-road racing in this neck of the woods."

MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission president Piet Swanepoel said the renewal of the Carnival City Casino 400 was another indication that off-road racing in South Africa was on the right track. "The Carnival City Casino 400 is also on the doorstep of a vast metropolitan area," said Swanepoel, "and provides us with a golden opportunity of bringing off-road racing to the people."

Swanepoel added that the format for this year's event was likely to be similar to the 2001 race, which was held over three laps of a course south of Brakpan. The race will be organised by the Koepel Club under the expert guidance of Willie Prinsloo.
