Chernis/Perry to go for CRS Championships at Laughlin
The rally team of Doug Chernis and Alan Perry will be travelling to southern tip of Nevada to compete in the Ramada Express International Rally on 9-11 Dec. They are currently running second and first respectively in the CRS (California Rally Series) Open 4WD Championship. Each day of the Ramada Express Rally scores points in the CRS Championship.
Chernis trails Blake Yoon in the Open 4WD Driver Championship by 77 points and leads Chad Davies by 84 points. Perry is ahead of John Dillon (Yoon's co-driver) in the Open 4WD Co-driver Championship by 200 points. Over the three days of rally competition, there are up to 600 CRS Championship points available to each competitor.
In addition to competing for the CRS Open 4WD Championship, Chernis and Perry will be competing in the Group N class in a 2002 Subaru WRX. Another notable entry in that class is New Zealand Group A champion Sam Murray.
Chernis is looking forward to the Ramada Express Rally. Last year, it was his second rally ever and his first time using stage notes. After his rollover accident at the Rim of the World and subsequent shakedown at Prescott in October, he feels this will be a good test of endurance with so many days and miles. "I plan on being there at the end. There are a lot of fast drivers and cars, so I'll let them battle it out," Chernis says. "The car has proven its reliability. This car has never DNF'ed due to mechanical issues and it has been updated significantly, all within the letter of the Group N regulations."
Perry explained, "I grew up in southern California, so I would really like to win the CRS Championship. I have a good lead on John, but there are so many points available at Ramada that it is important that we finish. Of course, the same is true for Blake and John."
The Ramada Express International Rally is the final round of the USAC United States Rally Championship. While the rally is headquartered in Laughlin, NV, its competitive sections are held on gravel roads in northwestern Arizona, including many near the Grand Canyon. The rally will be televised on the Motorsport Mundial program on the Speed Channel.
Doug Chernis is from Mesa, AZ. Alan Perry is from Bainbridge Island, WA. They are sponsored by iaperformance.com, Vivid Racing, motorsport.com and Snowmoose Software.
