Thiry out of the rally

The drama from the second day of the 33rd Barum Rally continued at the start of Day 3.

Vaclav Pech, led the 57 teams remaining in the rally, over the start ramp with 92.02 kms of special stages ahead of them.

Bruno Thiry was scheduled to start second but had an electrical problem with his starter. He exited Parc Ferme and pushed his car over the start line but was unable to continue and had to retire. In two stages he had experienced both the joy and despair of rallying..the joy of being a comfortable leader and then after the waste gate to his turbo broke, see that lead slip from his grasp, with the final despair of being unable to start his Peugeot 206 WRC to continue his battle with Miguel Campos.

"It's always sad when things like this happen, but that's rallying" said Campos when he reached the opening service. "I will now take it very easy and try to maintain second place. For me the points are the important thing, but also to finish."

Campos is 1min 13.5sec behind Pech and his main challenge is likely to come from third placed Jan Kopecky in a Skoda Octavia WRC who is just 20.1 seconds behind.

There are 3 stages today which they drive twice, with the winner mounting the victory rostrum at 15.13hrs. After the recent events there are very few people who are prepared to predict who that will be.
