BIGGEST MOTORSPORT EVENT EVER HITS ERMELO

Ermelo used to be known as a sleepy village in the north-eastern region of Mpumalanga, but it is currently the second fastest growing town in South Africa, just after Richards Bay. And during the weekend of 26 and 27 October, Ermelo will play host to the biggest motorsport event ever to be held there - the Ermelo Toyota 400 off-road race which will form the last round of the SA national off-road championship for motorcycle and quad competitors.

Having hosted more that 25 Castrol International and Total International Rallies where entries would normally be in the region of 60, the Ermelo Toyota 400 off-road event should attract at least 200 entries from all over South Africa.

The area has had a lot of rain and is absolutely beautiful and the organizers are ready for this event. The top motorcycle competitors will be in action participating and it will be awesome to see the likes of Darryl Curtis (Mekatrade AGA LG Red Bull KTM) and Gray Dick (Shimwells Yamaha/Panasonic) who will be fighting it out for the overall motorcycle title; Louwrens Mahoney and Kenneth Gilbert (Mekatrade AGA LG Red Bull KTM), Wynand Kleynhans (Team ORD Racing Linex Yamaha) as well as the young sensation Theo Potgieter (Ramco Suzuki) amongst others.

In the quad category, local rider Vincent Loubser (Loerie Yamaha), who is leading the championship, will fight it out with another former champ, Shaun Gunther (Duncan Racing RN Honda) while former champion, Hendrik Potgieter (Can-Am SA Racing) as well as 2007 race winners, Leander Pienaar (Can-Am SA Racing) and Brian Baragwanath (Yamaha YFZ450) will take on the challenging route with their capable quads.

Spectators have never seen anything like this in such a beautiful area before. The Ladies Quad Class will also deliver interesting racing and Amanda Eardley (Can-Am SA Racing), who has already won the class, will show again why she is the fastest off-road racing women in South Africa and why she can race with some of the top male riders.

A comprehensive spectator guide with detailed instructions to all 15 spectator points as well as a proximate arrival times, will be available at race headquarters at De Rust Guest House at Sheepmoor is available.

The hospitality industry and all businesses in Ermelo are ready to host this huge inflow of bikers, quad racers and their service crews, motorsport enthusiast and spectators and the seven great restaurants and some 50 guesthouses and two hotels have lain on extra staff to cope with this inflow. Guests who still want to overnight in Ermelo for the event can contact Louiza van Schalkwyk at 017 811 0622.

The local farming community of Sheepmoor, who found the route, marked it and who will control the entire race route, will have full catering facilities with home cooked meals available at De Rust Guesthouse throughout Saturday the 27 October.

Do not miss it as it will not only be a spectacle, but an exiting race that will take place in one of the most scenic areas imaginable.
