Current championship leaders Jan Habig and Douglas Judd, in the VW Motorsport Golf, have drawn the number one slot for the Stannic Great North Rally on September 17 and 18.

The event is round five of the Stannic Rally Championship with Habig and Judd, the 1997 champions, currently leading Castrol Toyota crew Serge Damseaux and Guy Hodgson by 14 points. Damseaux and Hodgson have drawn second on the road in an event the Castrol Toyota crew must win.

Third on the road will be the Sasol Motorcraft Ford Escort of Paolo Piazza-Musso and Richard Leeke. They will be followed by the Team Total Toyota Conquest of Etienne Lourens and Robert Paisley, with the latter returning to action after missing the recent Mountain Trial.

The four Class A8 cars will be followed by reigning champions and current Class A7 leaders Tjaart van der Walt and Cindi Harding in the Rieks Towing VW Golf. Van der Walt and Harding will be followed by the Class A6 championship leaders Hergen Fekken and Dave Lewkowicz, in the Dunair Toyota Corolla, with a good battle expected between the two crews.

Seventh on the road will be the Group N entry of Hannes Grobler and Nic Hadden, in the Total Bridgestone Nissan Sentra running in Class N3. They will be followed by the Class A6 crew of Jean-Pierre Damseaux and Pierre Arries (Team Total Toyota Corolla) who will be looking for a return to form after a disappointing Mountain Trial.

The top 10 will be completed by two Class A7 contenders in Tony Ball and Marti Olivier in the Bulwer Park VW Golf, and the Team Total VW Golf pair of Barry Grobbelaar and Mike Burrows. The two crews are level pegging in the Class A7 championship.

The Stannic Great North Rally has drawn an overall entry of 46 cars. The event starts and ends in Pietersburg and those wanting further information should visit the Stannic Rally website at http//:www.stannicrally.co.za
