THE BFGOODRICH DRIVERS TEAM GOES FROM SUCCESS TO SUCCESS: 41 APPLICANTS IN SPAIN!
No fewer than 41 crews have applied to the Real Federacion Espanola de Automovilismo to defend the BFGoodrich Drivers Team's colours on the forthcoming Rally Principe de Asturias (September 11-13, 2008).
In addition to being a success on the stages for the drivers selected to represent the BFGoodrich Drivers Team, the programme has been enthusiastically greeted by rally fans in all the countries where it has been run so far this year. BFGoodrich itself is extremely pleased with the way this unique operation has gone to date.
The BFGoodrich Drivers Team is an operation, which sets out to give talented drivers a chance to contest their home round of the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge). All competition licence holders are eligible to apply, irrespective of age or experience.
The selected driver will be entered in a Kronos-run Peugeot 207 Super 2000 alongside Kronos Racing's Freddy Loix and Nicolas Vouilloz in the team's other Peugeot 207 Super 2000s, and with all the technical support and professionalism necessary for this type of car.
A shortlist of five drivers will be drawn up by BFGoodrich and Kronos Racing. Then, on September 5, a panel of Spanish journalists will take part in a secret vote to select the crew that will be given the opportunity to contest Spanish's round of the IRC.
On September 8th, a test session will be organised near Bilbao in Spain to enable the crew to familiarise itself with the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 and also maximise its chances of figuring well in the final classification of the 2008 Rally Principe de Asturias.
"The BFGoodrich Drivers Team programme is proving to be a big hit with the crowds! The third event in the Czech Republic saw the driver who was selected - Pavel Valousek - finish fourth overall on the Barum Rally Zlin. In addition to being a big success in sporting terms, it was a really big hit with the Czech spectators, too. They cheered Pavel on from start to finish. We received 133 applications in Italy, and now 41 for the next round of the IRC, the Rally Principe de Asturias. That's a great score, and I am looking forward to finding out who the chosen driver is and to seeing how Spanish rally fans take to the concept." said Frederic Henry-Biabaud, BFGoodrich Competition Director.
