Simon Jean-Joseph stages a magnificent fight back! The gritty determination and fighting spirit of Simon Jean-Joseph and Jack Boyère saw the Citroën C2 Super 1600 crew complete the second day of the 2007 Barum Rally Zlín in an outstanding 10th position overall to bag valuable points that keep their European Championship (ERC) chances very much alive.

Putting their misfortune of the previous day behind them, Simon Jean-Joseph and Jack Boyère set off this morning intent on profiting from the second leg's programme of six stages totalling a hundred or so kilometres to climb back up the leaderboard and secure as many ERC points as possible. "We put the problem that dropped us time on yesterday's penultimate stage behind us when we started out this morning," points out Simon. "Jack and I knew this rally was far from over, so we pushed as hard as we could without overstepping the mark and without taking any risks. The tactic paid off. The scrap at the sharp end turned out to be extremely fierce, probably the fiercest of the season so far, and some of our rivals ended up falling by the wayside."

The Citroën pair succeeded in steering clear of the day's many potential pitfalls to finish the second leg classification in third position, which earns them an extra bonus point on top of the four points they collect for finishing fifth in the final classification for European Championship-registered drivers. "Our aim this morning was to score as many ERC points as possible and we ended up with a total of five after pushing hard all day," adds Simon. "This rally's fast and, above all, very bumpy and frequently gravel-strewn stages turned out to be tough for everyone and we're glad it's over."

The second day, which saw the thermometer climb to the 30°C mark, took place in splendid summer weather and attracted another huge crowd of enthusiastic rally fans who once again made a big impression on Simon Jean-Joseph. "Although difficult, this event is one of the finest in Europe. I am pleased and proud to have again succeeded in showing that the Citroën C2 Super 1600 is capable of taking the fight to the armada of four-wheel drive machinery that lined up for the start, even though we had to keep working to find the ideal set-up, notably for the bumpy portions which we hadn't encountered in anger before coming here."

Citroën Sport's Customer Competition Manager Yves Matton was delighted with the way Simon Jean-Joseph and Jack Boyère fought back at the wheel of their Citroën C2 Super 1600: "Simon and Jack gave it everything they had. It's such a shame about the problem that cost them more than three minutes and, above all, valuable European Rally Championship points yesterday. Mathematically, there is still everything to play for and the title decision looks like it will go down to the wire. Simon will need to profit from the last two rounds the Elpa and Antibes Rallies to keep the pressure on his rivals, just as he has done so many times this year already."
