Light and shadows for the Interwetten Racing Teams at the FxPro Cyprus Rally

Franz Wittmann/Josefine Beinke were forced to stop their race to catch up on SS 5 by a broken wheel suspension

Brian Bouffier/Xavier Panseri shone on Friday afternoon with three SS best-times

Bad luck seems to stick to Franz Wittmann and Josefine Beinke (Peugeot 207 S2000) at the "FxPro Cyprus Rally", as well. Or rather, to their tyres. Following a splendid morning where the Interwetten Racing Team moved up from 33rd to sixth overall place, the bitter end came on special stage five. A pin on the transverse control arm at the front right wheel suspension broke about three kilometres prior to the finish.

Wittmann: "We actually were on a good way. Also, this stage isn't too hard compared to the others. But suddenly the right front wheel was at a weird angle. All I could do was to let the Peugeot 207 S2000 coast to a stop. The damage on the car is minimal. I'm sure that we will be able to compete within SupeRally on Saturday. That will serve as preparation for the super stage on Sunday when prize money will be dished out."

Bryan Bouffier had already encountered a similar problem in the early morning. Yet, the French Interwetten driver had been able to repair his Peugeot S2000 but had thereby lost almost 25 minutes, dropping back to last place. After having subsequently already marked two second-best times in the morning, the Peugeot test driver shone in the afternoon with no less than three special stage best-times, thus proving to be the absolutely fastest man on the second three special stages of the day.

Bouffier: "That is all we can do for now. To show how fast the car is and where we would have stood but for the damage. But it is obvious that each SS-best-time boosts your self-confidence."

The "FxPro Rally Cyprus" will conclude on Sunday with six further special stages leading over 122,08 kilometres. The finishing line will be crossed at 18:03 (local time, first car) in Limassol.
