Interwetten Racing Teams prepare for the grand finale on Sunday
Franz Wittmann/Josefine Beinke abstain from starting within SupeRally
Brian Bouffier/Xavier Panseri continue to mark sensational special stage best-times
Together with the team of ROMO Motorsport, Franz Wittmann and Josefine Beinke (Peugeot 207 S2000) had discussed into the late hours whether a start within SupeRally on Saturday would be a wise decision. In the end the Interwetten Racing Team decided against it. The risk would have been too high since on Sunday the highly remunerated event of the "Love Cyprus Golden Stage Rally" will take place.
No one can even remember an event within a rally where that much prize money was awarded. No less than 150.000 Euro overall are in the pot at the "Love Cyprus Golden Stage Rally". The overall winner alone gets 40.000 Euro. This means a very welcome source of income for the teams at the end of a long season. But it's still a long way to go until then. A 25 kilometres long special stage on mixed surface (tarmac and gravel) has to be completed twice. The times will be added up. The starts will be on Sunday at 11:03 and 14:04 local time respectively.
Wittmann: "It wasn't an easy decision but in the end sense won out. The special stages on Saturday are very tough and, given our time gap, it doesn't make sense to endanger the Peugeot S2000 unnecessarily. Now we'll completely focus on the event on Sunday. One has to blank the money out in order to perform freely. Yet, I still hope that we'll get our share of the prize money."
Bryan Bouffier chose a different kind of preparation. Even though the French Interwetten Racing driver has no chance for a top result in the overall classification anymore following the first special stage (a broken transverse control arm cost him 25 minutes) he nevertheless impressed with special stage best-times ever since. His biggest triumph so far came on the second SS on Saturday. On the 31,7 kilometres long SS "Foini" the Peugeot test driver was faster by over a minute than second-placed Cypriot Nicos Thomas (Peugeot 207 S2000).
