Wallasey Motor Club have announced they will be running a special 'Rally Weekend' this summer to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Promenade Stages Rally.
Having recently been given the approval by their Local Authority's Leisure Services Department for a full weekends road closure order covering the unique New Brighton's circuit, the organsing team have opted for a two day, two event approach.
The Promenade Stages Rally will run in it's usual popular guise with sponsorship backing from local night-club 'The Chelsea 2000' on Saturday 22nd July. The following day will then take the format of a one off show type event with a relaxed atmosphere, spiced up with a competitive edge to it in celebration of the rally's 20 year history and the millennium.
Seven times Promenade winner John Price has already shown his commitment to the second day's action by taking on the role of sponsor and the event will be known as 'The John Price Rallying Millennium Challenge'.
Initial indications show that the second day will include a selected 40 car entry, following a team format, with teams having a star team leader from past or present and a good mix of cars and drivers. Interspersed between the competitive action will be demonstration runs with variation and a historical view of motorsport being the theme.
Although it is still early days with regards to the driver line-up, notable interest to date has come from ITV F1 presenter Tony Jardine, Ex BRC winners Russell Brookes and Jimmy McRae and the Kumho Tyres F2 BRC Hyundai Rally Team to name but a few.
Passing comment on the event PEC's Tristan Dodd, Rally Operations Director for Kumho Tyres said. "I know most of the organising team and they must be some of the best in the area. Kumho are sponsoring the Hyundai F2 BRC Rally Team this year and the initial talks I have had with Rallycorp, who run the team, about the event have indicated a very strong interest. New Brighton has always been a big crowd puller and this event could offer an excellent low cost PR opportunity for us whilst putting something back into the sport."
