QMMF releases list of drivers for NBK Qatar International Rally 2006

DOHA - 14 February 2006: The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) has finalized a list of 23 teams that will take part in the Qatar International Rally-which is the second round of the FIA Middle East Championship 2006 -starting this Thursday.

The list is headed by Qatar's ace rally driver Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and his Ulster co-driver Chris Patterson. The duo, which has entered by the name of 'Qatar Rally Team', will be driving their Subaru 2006, the car brand that brought them the top spot in the first round of the FIA Middle East Championship 2006 held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in January.

Khalid Al Qassimi of UAE and his co-driver Nick Beech of Great Britain will be driving their Subaru WRX in the two-day race which starts on February 17. The Power Horse pair of Al Qassimi and Beech finished in second spot in the first round of FIA Middle East Championship in the UAE.

UAE team of Sheikh Suhail Al Maktoum and co-driver Wael Marjan will be driving their Subaru STP this week. Al Maktoum and Marjan are in third spot in the points table going into the second round of eight races to be completed this season.

Among the 23 teams in the starting list, there are seven Qatari teams in the fray including the defending champion Al Attiyah and his team-mate Patterson.

According to the list released by QMMF on Tuesday, the remaining six Qatari teams include Khalifa Bin Khalifa Al Attiyah and Rashid Al Sulaity (Subaru N11), Misfer Al Marri and Adil Abdallah (Mitsubishi Evo 9), Khalifa Saleh Al Attiyah and Marwan Musabah Farhan (Mitsubishi Evo 6), Mohammed Al Mannai and Nasser Saadon Al Kuwari (Mitsubishi Lancer), Jaralla Al Me'a Jahman and Mohammed Rashid Al Marri (Mitsubishi Evo 6) and Khalid Mohammed Al Suwaidi and Jassim Al Ali (Mitsubishi Evo 7).

According to Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, the president of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), the stage is set for Qatar leg of the FIA Middle East Championship 2006.

"We are ready for the event and hope that an intense battle for supremacy will be witnessed here in Doha. Since the Doha race is part of the Qatar Rally Championship, I am sure the drivers from Doha have a lot at stake as far as points are concerned," the QMMF president said on Tuesday.

"Qatar's campaign in the home rally will be led by Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah and Chris Patterson. They will be joined by six other local teams in a total of 23 pairs battling for honors in the forthcoming rally," Al Attiyah said.

"We are in the middle of a busy motor sport season and we are looking forward to keeping the motor sport fans in Doha and in the region very happy by organizing so many races. Fans are lucky that they are getting to see so many top class events taking place with such great frequency," Al Attiyah added.
