The Nashua Mobile Racing off-road squad will be out to build on early season successes in round four of the Bankfin Off-Road Championship -- the O'Hagan's/Kopanong Hotel 400 -- on July 26 and 27.

Consistency has proved to be a key factor for two Nashua Mobile Racing crews competing in the Special Vehicle category in this year's championship. Greg Daus and co-drivers Trevor Ormerod and Anthony van Zyl in Class S, and Terrence Marsh and Trevor Ahier in Class A, have 100 percent finish records in a series that reaches the halfway point with the North West Province event.

Overall victory in the Special Vehicle category on the recent Toyota 1000 Desert Race, and three Class S wins in a row have taken Daus, in the Nashua Mobile Raceco, to the top of the Special Vehicle and Class S championships. Co-drivers Ormerod, who shared in two class wins, and van Zyl who did duty on the Toyota 1000 event, also feature prominently in the Class S and Special Vehicle overall championships.

Marsh and Ahier, in the Nashua Mobile Jimco, have been just as consistent but have so far not managed to produce a win in Class A. After three top five finishes in a row on the Barberspan 500, the Nissan Sugarbelt 400 and the Toyota 1000 Desert Race, the pair will be hoping to break the ice on the O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel 500.

Marsh and Ahier currently lie second in the Class A championship, with a growing rivalry emerging between the Nashua Mobile Racing and O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel Superteam in Class A and Class S. Superteam crews John Weir-Smith and Tony George, in the BMW Jimco, and Richard Carolin / Geoff Minnitt in a Raceco, trail the Nashua Mobile Racing entries in both championships, and are out to set the record straight on their own event.

"Our win on the Nissan Sugarbelt 400 and a good result on the Barberspan 500 was offset by not finishing the Toyota Desert Race," said Weir-Smith. "I think we have the legs on Marsh / Ahier and Daus, and we'll be looking to get ahead of them both on the road and in the championship.

"Carolin and Minnitt have also overcome some early season problems, and they are in for a good result and hopefully they can also put a little pressure on Daus."

The Nashua Mobile Racing squad also has representation in Class B in the Special Vehicle category via Warren Claasen and Kim Dixon in a Radflo Zeb. It is in Class A and S, however, that Weir-Smith and company will be hoping the law of averages catches up with Daus and Marsh and Ahier.

The O'Hagan's / Kopanong Hotel 500 will open on July 26 with a 60 kilometre Prologue to determine grid positions for racing section two. The Prologue starts at 13h00 at race headquarters at the Tusk Resort, and will be run in classes with Class T the first to come under starters orders.

Racing section two starts at the Tusk Resort at 08h00 on July 27 with the first vehicles expected back at the finish, at the same venue, at around 13h15.
