GMC-MOTORSPORT duo Gerry McCafferty and Davie Hatrick were in a class of their own this weekend, taking 1st in class in the Scottish Tarmac rally Championship.

The STRC regulars were using the event as a tarmac test for their new Opel Corsa, which was only completed last Friday morning after a mammoth nine-month project. Based on the fearsome tarmac roads of the Otterburn Military ranges near Newcastle Upon Tyne, the 80 stage miles on offer were the perfect testing ground for McCafferty and Hatrick.

With car set-up and not victory the principle aim of the day, McCafferty and Hatrick made a number of adjustments to the Opel Corsa, concentrating on ride height and suspension settings. With the stages running in identical loops, McCafferty was able to judge the effectiveness of the settings on the stages

The demanding nature of the Otterburn asphalt lends itself well to setting up a car for tarmac stages, and the team were delighted with progress made during the day:

"I'd never driven the car in anger before, so it was a very important part of our preparations for hopefully many successful events to come with the new car. We tried a number of different settings, some of which were very good and some that were not as good. The car performed exceptionally well all day and both Davie and I were very pleased to have won the class in the STRC on our first time out in the new car.

The feeling with the car is very good after today's run, so our attention now switches to further development of the vehicles specially fitted components. Everyone at GMC-MOTORSPORT is looking forward to the next event at Ingliston, so it should be very interesting to see what happens with it being 100% sealed smooth tarmac, further lowering of the cars suspension will be tested over the next four weeks. Sunday’s test has given us every confidence in being able to gain every possible point available in the events to come, where we will have to be totally focussed on achieving the best result possible."
