Mathieu L'Estage earns a well deserved second place finish at Rallye Perce-Neige
Maniwaki, Quebec (February 10th, 2010) - Mathieu L'Estage and co-driver Yanick Napert in their Mitsubishi Evolution V had their best outing ever in the Canadian Rally Championship with a superb second place overall finish in the Rallye Perce-Neige held last weekend in Maniwaki, Quebec. Road conditions were exceptionally slippery, causing up to 19 retirements, and slowing several of the 55 entries. Good performances in class include second place in Production Sport for Ontarians Jeffrey Dowell and Yavor Klostranec debuting a new Lancer and returning 2WD champions Jan and Jody Zedril from Winnipeg taking third place in category. Outright overall winners were Bruno Carré and Yvon Joyal in a Subaru STi, a first career victory for them.
Some Mitsubishi teams ran into a string of problems and were not able to capitalise on points. Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard in their Lancer Evolution were leading the event when they slipped off the road and finished 16th. The same result happened to the North American champion Andrew Comrie-Picard with Jeremy Wimpey who ended up 12th after attempting to take the lead following L'Estage's exit. Simon Losier and François Morin steering their Evolution 8 took 11th.
"Hopes were high for our teams as the 2010 season was launched." said Koji Soga, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc.(MMSCAN). "We congratulate the teams who did well and we feel confident our Mitsubishi brigade will bounce back during the next round."
Rocky Mountain Rally in May
The next event of the season, Rocky Mountain Rally, will be held out of Calgary on May 27 - 29. Competitors will take to the roads in the Porcupine Hills at the foot of the Rockies. Rocky Mountain Rally has had a reputation for unpredictable road conditions since it was first run in the early seventies. Competitors can expect anything from thick fog to dusty roads or heavy snow.
