Peugeot Total Silver Team does not score
Miguel Campos forced to retire the Casino da Póvoa Rally

March 13, 2004 -- The Portuguese Rally Championship made its debut this weekend on the harsh roads of the Vieira do Minho region, displaying a pretty difficult stage, resulting from the strong rain showers that took place on the previous week. Coming back to the Portuguese Rally of Casino da Póvoa, Peugeot Total Silver Team SG entered with a 206 Super 1600 destined for the Miguel Campos/Nuno Rodrigues da Silva duo.

This Team's main difficulty, which forced them to retire with a front suspension problem when they where in fifth place, reverted to the fact that they where developing this new machine, that was racing on gravel for the first time. This version of the Peugeot 206 Super 1600 presents a strong evolution potential, which will have to be developed by the technical team, headed by Carlos Barros.

One of the Team's goals was to set a comparison standard with the competition: "The Rally was very difficult, and we had to give our best all the time. We are aware that there is still a lot to do, and probably, most of the things don't depend directly on us. We wanted to score on gravel, in order to be in a good position for when the Championship shifts to the tarmac stages. We will study the best way to gain competitiveness and evolve until the next rally" Said Miguel Campos, regretting having to retire the rally on the SS7.

Considering that Peugeot Sport didn't participate in gravel rallies with the S1600 since last year, some evolutions where only recently tested by the Portuguese Team, when they decided to comeback to the Portuguese Rallies: "we where in charge of developing the 206 Super 1600 for gravel, which we will do, within our possibilities, during the first part of the year, mostly in terms of suspensions and engine torque", explained Carlos Barros, technical manager for the Peugeot Total Silver Team SG, "Nevertheless, the S1600 regulations, condition our performance in terms of car improvements on gravel, since in tarmac, as seen on the Rota do Vidro Rally in September, we where on an excellent level, having surpassed so of the kit-cars."

Peugeot Total Silver Team will start preparing the TMN Rali de Portugal which will take place within three weeks, having already scheduled some testing on the agenda.
