Miguel Campos gets a Hat-trick in the Portuguese Championship with a Win in the Algarve

Two Peugeots on the Podium in the last Rally of the Season

The Casinos do Algarve Rally which was held in the area of Monchique last weekend was one of the most exciting races this year due to the breath-taking fight which lasted right to the last metre between the driver of the Peugeot 206 S1600, Miguel Campos, and the local driver Ricardo Teodósio in a Mitsubishi Carisma. Coming into the last stretch the difference between them was four tenths of a second in the Algarvian's favour, but Miguel Campos/Nuno Rodrigues da Silva went one better to get a final advantage of 5.9 seconds. Peugeot also had Rui Madeira/Mário Castro's 206 Super 1600 in third place. This was the third consecutive victory for Miguel Campos and the Peugeot Total Silver Team SG in 2004, the 13th in the Portuguese Championship and the 37th win for Peugeot in the Portuguese Rally.

The Casinos do Algarve Rally was a sprint rally, with 10 classification races, with the fight for first place being closely fought. Miguel Campos took charge after the fourth special, only losing the lead to Ricardo Teodósio in the penultimate stretch: "It was a tough and very demanding race. I had a few problems which prevented my engine from giving its maximum, but even so it was enough to win. I had some difficulties with the traction as the roads were very dirty with mud and stones on the curves, mainly on the third time round the stretches, where it was easy to cut through. I managed to win the last three rallies of the season with the Peugeot 206 Super 1600, and I am Runner-Up, even though I was the driver who won most races."

The duo Rui Madeira/Mário Castro took Peugeot Total Silver Team SG's other 206 Super 1600 into the third place on the Podium, winning three general classifiers during the day: "I liked the rallies I drove in the Peugeot a lot, it's a great team. I adapted to the 206 straight away, the results were quite good and I think I put in a good contribution. I just feel it's a pity the championship is already over, although I feel I did my duty."

Carlos Barros, visibly satisfied for getting both of his Peugeots on the podium, said: "In first place I am happy with our team's results this season in which we took part in the Super 1600 class for the first time. Miguel Campos and Nuno Rodrigues da Silva won three rallies and Rui Madeira with Mário Castro were an excellent help to the team. We missed the Constructors Championship by one point, but we were the best in our two wheel drive class. I want to thank the technicians and the drivers for the dedication they have always shown, as thanks to them I can say that we are a Top team in Portuguese motor racing. "
