Sverre Isachsen Takes Dominant U.S. Rallycross Victory

MillVille NJ (November 6th, 2010) -- Sverre "The Viking Warrior" Isachsen takes a dominant win on the pen-ultimate round of the 2010 RallyCar U.S. Rallycross Championship. Isachsen won the All-Wheel Drive final in his 2008 Ford Focus named "Stina" with a time of 3 minutes 23.9 seconds, finishing five seconds ahead of Toomas Heikkinen in the 2010 SAAB 93 Aero Sport. The AWD A Main was forced to re-start twice before Isachsen claimed victory, with the first red flag due to a false start and the second because of debris on the course. Isachsen, who has won the European Rallycross Championship the last two years, took the lead off of the grid on all three A Main starts.

Behind the Viking's charge of the European invasion on U.S. Rallycross was Finnish phenom Toomas Heikkinen, who managed to fend off attacks by American drivers Tanner Foust and Travis Pastrana. Heikkenen finished second overall, making the nineteen-year-old the youngest AWD competitor to podium in U.S. Rallycross so far. Ford Fiesta driver Tanner Foust, who won the first two rounds of the U.S. Championship, saw his streak come to an end but still secured a spot on the AWD podium.

Subaru Rally Team USA's Travis Pastrana finished the A-final just outside the podium, only 0.18 seconds behind Foust and 2.92 seconds faster than three-time European Rallycross Champion Jussi Pinomaki. Frode Holte, who had shown respectable times throughout the day in his 2010 Volvo C30, suffered a DNF on the third run of the A Main.

In Two-Wheel-Drive, John Tancredi takes his first overall U.S. Rallycross win in the A Main event. Tancredi raced his 2006 Mazda MX-5 in the previous two rounds of the U.S. Rallycross Championship, showing increased performance on each outing. Tancredi pulled ahead of Matthew Johnson in the 2WD A-final to set a time of 4 minutes 11.16 seconds, finishing over three seconds faster than Johnson's Nitro Circus Ford Fairmont. Rallycross podium regular Josh Wimpey finished third overall in his 1987 Volkswagen GTI, chasing Johnson closely in the final event. 2002 Ford Focus driver Dillon Van Way once again showed amazing speed throughout the day by setting the fastest times on 2WD Heats 1 and 2, but DNF'd in the A Main after his car's shifter failed. Of notable mention, Mazda MX-5 drivers Mark Abel and Kyle Gagliardi both made it into the 2WD A Main final, finishing 4th and 5th respectively.

RallyCar's U.S. Rallycross double-header continues at 9:30 Eastern Time on Sunday November 7th at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ. Sunday's event marks the fourth and final round of the 2010 Championship, RallyCar's inaugural Rallycross season. The weekend began with a total of 37 registered entries, nearly double from last October's round. Follow the most exhilarating wheel-to-wheel rally racing in the USA as the Americans battle against veteran Rallycross drivers from Europe for top honors.
