ANOTHER NEW SPONSOR FOR ABSA OFF ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP
Another sponsor will join the Absa Off Road Championship 'family' with the inaugural Human Motors 400 in the Free State on October 22 and 23.
The event is round seven of the Absa series and sees mainstream South African championship motorsport return to the Free State. Human Motors, a family business established in 1950, joins Donaldson Filtration System, Atlas Copco and 4x4 Mega World as new sponsors this year.
The Donaldson Prologue is run prior to events to determined grid positions for the race proper. Earlier this season Atlas Copco also increased their involvement in South African off road racing by taking over sponsorship of the Atlas Copco Sugarbelt 400 in KwaZulu-Natal.
The 4x4 Mega World 400 at Carnival City also highlighted a new sponsor for off road racing. As is the case with Atlas Copco the 4x4 Mega World team also runs cars in the Production Vehicle category.
Human Motors is a family business established in Bloemfontein in 1950 by Barnie Human. A Kimberley dealership was opened in 1958 and a Welkom branch in 1960.
"At the core of the company's existence is a desire to serve the greater community of the Free State and Northern Cape by enhancing prosperity and growth," said Human Auto director Jacque Strydom. "By bringing a mainstream South African championship event to the Free State we believe we are living up to our mission statement.
"A number of Free State based teams have in recent seasons raced with great success in the Absa Off Road Championship, and we are delighted to play a role in bringing national competition back to the region."
Richard Schilling, president of the SA National Off Road Car Racing Association, said the decision by Human Auto to sponsor a round of the national championship was another major step forward for the sport. The sponsorship also demonstrated the solid base from which off road racing operated.
"We have a committed series sponsor in Absa and equally committed partners in Ford, Toyota and Donaldson," said Schilling. "With Human Auto and other event sponsors in the fold we have a vibrant championship with enormous potential for further growth.
"The national association works closely with our sponsors and we also place a high value on feedback from our competitors.
The Human Auto 400 will be based at the Windmill Casino on the outskirts of Bloemfontein. Race headquarters, the start/finish and the designated service point will all be located at the Windmill Casino with race director Adri Roets and his team currently finalising what should be a challenging route.
"We are busy putting the finishing touches to a route that will be demanding," said Roets. "It has been an interesting exercise but we have managed to come up with plenty of variety that will keep competitors on their toes."
