SHIMWELLS YAMAHA RIDERS IN COMMAND OF OFF-ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP

The Shimwells Yamaha and EPH Shimwells Yamaha teams are still in command of the ATV Powersport ITP National Off-road Championship for motorbikes after the recent Caledon 400, round six of the championship that was held in the Tweespruit area in the Free State.

Clayton Enslin (EPH Shimwells Yamaha) finished in an excellent second place overall and in the 250cc Class championship and kept his leading position in the overall championship. Enslin is now focusing on the title and finished the race sensible and safe without taking any risks. He was followed home by his team-mate, Gray Dick (Shimwells Yamaha/Panasonic Car Audio) who won the Open Class. Dick slipped from second to third place on the overall point's ladder, but with two races to go, anything can still happen.

It was another good finish for Gavin Louw (Shimwells Yamaha) although he took a tumble during the time-trail and had to tackle the main event with a battered and bruised body. He finished 10th overall and second in the 200cc Class and kept his place in this class where he still stands a good chance of defending his 2005 title. Kyle Poppleton (EPH Shimwells Yamaha) finished fourth in the class while Zac Botha (Shimwells Yamaha) unfortunately crashed out of the event.

The young Kenneth Gilbert (EPH Shimwells Yamaha) has the 125cc Class Championship all wrapped up, but was looking for another victory in this competitive class. He started the main race 1 min 20 sec behind the class leader, Juan van Rooyen, and after a close race, he managed to finished a mere 12 seconds behind him and, with added times, 1 min 32 sec put him in the second place in the class.

In the Senior Pro Championship, Johnny Lochner (Shimwells Yamaha) had to settle for the eighth place after being beaten to a higher position by a mere second while Enzo Chiocchi (EPH Shimwells Yamaha) scored two points towards the class championship when he finished 14th.

The Shimwells Yamaha and EPH Shimwells Yamaha riders are now preparing for the penultimate event, the Lonestar Racing PEP Naboomspruit 400 that will take place on 21 and 22 October.
