Kenny McKinstry and co-driver Sean Mullally made no mistakes over the final few stages of this Fastnet Rally to score a very convincing win. Kenny's Subaru ran faultlessly throughout the day and indeed Kenny had no problems at all.  On the last stage he did lose a few seconds when he caught Melvyn Evans' struggling Escort WRC, the Welshman fighting a flat right rear tyre, and happy to only lose approximately 30s and hold on to his 2nd place. Kenny commented at the end "I was really getting into it, thoroughly enjoyed it".  Melvyn said "I came to do a job, win the Get Connected, and I'm very happy to have done it".  Third placed Patrick Elliott was also here on a mission, and that was to confirm his runner up spot in the Dunlop National series behind Niall Maguire. Patrick had a smooth run throughout the day, just some errant tyre pressures causing a little worry. Sean Gallagher and co driver Liam Costello finished just outside the leaderboard and they finish 3rd in the Dunlop series. Liam McCarthy increased the water pressure injection to the engine on his Corolla WRC over the last few stages, and that gave some improvement to the car, Liam finishing a fine 4th.

Ollie O'Donovan in 6th eased back a little towards the end, concentrated on keeping his Subaru on the road, and in so doing tied up the 023 Tiles Southern 4 Championship. Nigel Hicklin finished approximately 15th overall and he takes runner up spot. 5th placed Bob Fowden won gpN today with a very impressive drive.

Denis Cronin in 7th took highest placed 2 wheel drive honours from Phil Collins. Denis did not seem in quite his usual form and the damp roads made the car difficult to drive.  Collins was in fine form and despite the lack of 4th gear in his Escort surprised many with his speed. Kieran O'Neill finished approx. 13th and 3rd 2 wheel drive but had the satisfaction of winning cl.13, 11s ahead of Anthony O'Halloran. Cathal Arthurs slipped a few places on the leaderboard over the last few stages, his Celica's engine dipstick coming slightly adrift, allowing oil to spout out from under the bonnet and on to the screen.   Finally for now - many thanks to all who supported the RallyNews. Congratulations to everyone at the Skibbereen MC for an extremely well run and enjoyable day.
