HDT bringing excitement to Targa Tasmania

The name HDT is synonymous with motorsport in Australia, and this year is celebrating its 30-year Anniversary of the road car company, HDT Special Vehicles.

Constantly striving for innovation, HDT, under the stewardship of Peter and Sandy Champion, have recently unveiled their latest addition to the Heritage series cars – the new ‘Blue Meanie'.

And now the excitement continues with the brand new two-car HDT Targa Team competing in this years' Targa Tasmania, commencing in Launceston, Tasmania on Tuesday, April 27and finishing on May 2in Hobart.

The HDT Targa Team, featuring the brand new HDT VK/VE Retro Commodore and the HDT VH/VE Retro Commodores, will be piloted by WA's Todd Zani and Paul Davies. Along with their navigators, the two-car team are aiming to produce some excellent results in the striking new vehicles.

Having both competed previously in Targa Tasmania, Targa West (and Todd also in the Bathurst 12 hour), they bring extensive event experience to the team.

The HDT VK/VH Retro Commodore of Paul Davies is a ‘race version' of the current release from HDT Special Vehicles, the ‘Blue Meanie' which has been fitted out with a 7-litre engine.

Todd is competing in a HDT VH/VK Retro Commodore and both cars have been liveried in the striking style of HDT Special Vehicles founder and racing legend, Peter Brock's 1984 VK Bathurst winning commodore.

HDT Special Vehicles owner, Peter Champion and his team will also be supporting the team throughout the event with the HDT/Champions Brock Experience Transporter.

Along with the two HDT Targa Team cars, Champion will also be carrying some other interesting cargo - Peter Brocks' 2004 Targa Monaro from the extensive collection at Champions Brock Experience in Queensland.

Brock fans will be thrilled to see Brocks' 05 Monaro back at Targa. It was a tough decision on which Brock car to bring along to Targa, with over 40 cars in the unique collection, including the infamous 82/83 and 84 Bathurst winning MHDT Commodores.

But the Targa 05 Monaro won the day and event organiser, Mark Perry, is thrilled to have it featured at this years' Targa. To find out more visit www.championsbrockexperience.com.au

Also along for the ride is the latest release, VK/VE Retro Blue Meanie road car. Heavily featured in the motoring press since its release, the ‘Blue Meanie' has been selling well for HDT, with the majority of new car owners choosing its unique custom four-seat interior option and several also choosing the supercharger option as well.

In tribute to Brock's most famous creation, the HDT VK/VE Retro Commodore is the third in the Heritage series being produced by the company, after being purchased in August 2007 by Peter Champion.

The ‘Blue Meanie' is powered by a 350kW performance engine package, enhanced with a HDT modified ‘Bilstein' suspension, 19 inch Aero look wheels and tyres, HDT's exclusive custom style body kit, custom interior and body finished in the original Group A formula blue.

With only 250 being built, each comes with the unique HDT certified documents which record the owner, date of purchase, authenticity, build number and individualised build plate. Available now, the ‘Blue Meanie' will fast become a collectors' item, sustaining its value as an investment.

HDT will have both of these unique vehicles on display at Symmons Plains on Monday, April 26, and at the Silverdome on both Tuesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 29 from 7pm.
